Doves for Peace

Lesson Objective

Students will introduce themselves  and send a wish to their Taiwan friend on the back of a decorated paper dove.

Overview

Students will color and decorate the front of a paper dove. They will introduce themselves and write a wish for their Taiwan buddy on the back of the dove.

Preparation

  1. Print enough paper doves for each student to have at least one dove. Some students may need two if there are more Taiwan students in your partner school. (Students could choose which dove they want to color.)
  2. Have a  pack of crayons available for each student.
  3. Print sentence stem worksheet
  4. Print up the Zentangle sheet as an extension option.

Day 1 Coloring Dove (20-30 minutes)

  1. Pass out a paper dove to each student. As an option, students could choose one of the four dove designs.
  2. If you are going to have your students Zentangle,  use can use the doves with the extra lines drawn in.
  3. Students color doves using markers or crayons.

Day 2 Finishing sentence stems (20-30 minutes)

  1. Brainstorm hopes and wishes for our friends in Taiwan.
  2. Have students write their wishes for their Taiwan friends.

(Outside of class time, the classroom teacher could use google translate to translate sentences into Chinese.)

Day 3 Putting it all together (20-30 minutes)

  1. Students cut one or two of the wishes  out.
  2. Students glue the wishes on to the back of the dove.

Day 4 Mail the doves!
